Tatara safety razor Amakuni single edge Matte Steel
Tatara Amakuni represents the company’s first step in creating a single-edge safety razor, precisely designed to offer a unique shaving experience. Ideal for those who prefer Artist Club (AC) blades, this razor combines innovation and craftsmanship for excellent results.
Made entirely of stainless steel, the Amakuni safety razor is the result of meticulous attention to detail. Its two-piece design uses an innovative magnetic system that simplifies blade loading and removal to the maximum. This mechanism ensures impeccable stability during use, offering a safe and uncompromising experience.
Key features:
- Blade gap: 0.85 mm
- Blade exposure: 0.060 mm
- Blade angle: 29º
- Weight: 85 grams
The head, with smooth curves and minimal details, is designed to provide excellent control and unparalleled precision. Thanks to optimal balance, the razor can be paired with a wide range of AC blades, allowing you to customize the shaving experience based on your skin type and personal preferences.
The choice of stainless steel is not accidental. Its density and natural weight allow the razor to glide effortlessly over the skin, reducing the need to apply pressure. This material not only ensures durability and corrosion resistance but also offers a quiet and controlled shave.
Each razor undergoes a manual sandblast treatment, giving the surface a matte and refined appearance. This process gives the razor a smooth finish, ideal for those seeking elegance and functionality in a single tool.
One of the distinctive elements of the Tatara Amakuni is the magnetic system that simplifies assembly:
- Compact design: handle and head connected in a single piece, reducing the number of components.
- Practicality: magnets securely fix the blade and cover, ensuring ease of assembly and disassembly.
- Stability: during use, the magnetic system keeps the blade perfectly in place, ensuring an even shave.

Tightening a safety razor correctly does not mean cranking it down hard until you damage the threads. Proper tightening usually involves a small final turn once you’ve reached the stop. In addition, to preserve the handle’s threading, it’s recommended to always join the head and handle while keeping them perfectly straight and aligned.
A well-maintained safety razor lasts a long time and stays looking good, which is why cleaning after every use is an essential step. Daily maintenance doesn’t require complicated procedures: after shaving, rinse thoroughly with warm water and a mild cleanser (such as hand soap or shampoo), then dry each part carefully.
We also recommend not leaving the blade installed and dirty in the razor. If it stays damp and covered with residue, the blade can start micro-oxidation; over time these marks can transfer or leave stains on the razor as well, worsening the appearance of the finish.
Special attention for zamak razors: with this material it’s important to disassemble, rinse, and dry every single component after use. In particular, the top cap thread is an area where water and residue can easily build up: if neglected, over time this can trigger corrosion and wear, eventually weakening the thread and compromising functionality.
To protect materials and finishes, avoid any “extreme” methods: do not boil the razor, do not put it in the dishwasher, and do not use harsh products or aggressive procedures. Even on high-quality razors, these practices can damage chrome plating, anodizing, and other coatings.
Do you have a brass razor and want to restore its shine? A simple remedy is to soak the components in a bowl with lemon juice for about 10–15 minutes. Then rinse and dry with a soft, scratch-free cloth for a clean, bright finish.
