Fatip safety razor adjustable Vario Gold original open comb
Updated Fatip Vario version: the Vario returns with a new core, designed to deliver even more precise adjustment and a more solid feel during shaving. The update focuses on three key areas: a recalibrated head alignment for more accurate symmetry, a PA 6 GF30 insert (glass-fiber reinforced polyamide) to provide the millimetric stability users asked for while maintaining good balance, and a more solid, more precise adjustment ring, with smooth action but a more “locked-in” feel at the selected setting.
The original Fatip Vario Gold open comb is an adjustable Safety Razor designed for those who want a tailored, precise, and satisfying shave. Thanks to the ability to fine-tune the cutting depth, this model lets you adapt your shave to your skin sensitivity, beard density, and personal habits: whether you prefer gentle, gradual passes or a closer shave, the adjustment system provides precise and intuitive control. From a construction standpoint, the Vario comes with the classic large handle, designed to offer a secure grip and good balance during use. Its specifications are ideal for those seeking solidity and ease of handling in a single tool:
- Weight: 80 g
- Total length: 93 mm
- Handle length: 82 mm
- Head width: 42 mm
The core of this Safety Razor is its aggressiveness adjustment, meaning the “depth” with which the blade works on the beard. The rotating dial, positioned on the handle at the base of the head, allows you to increase or decrease the space between the blade and the comb (the so-called blade gap). In practical terms, this translates into the option to choose a milder setting, perfect for sensitive skin and frequent shaving, or a more assertive setting, useful when the beard is coarser or when you want an especially close shave. This versatility makes the Vario a Safety Razor suitable both for those refining their technique and for anyone looking for a tool that can adapt to different needs over time.
The open comb is another feature that enhances the experience: it helps the razor glide through hair and manage longer beard growth, contributing to efficient shaving even when you don’t shave every day. With good face preparation (warm water, shaving soap or a well-lathered shaving cream) and proper technique, this Safety Razor can deliver clean, even results, reducing the need to make too many passes over the same area. Below you’ll find the operating instructions to use the Fatip Vario correctly, with attention to safety and component alignment.
1) Disassembly
- Turn the adjustment dial located at the base of the head clockwise until it stops (maximum head opening).
- Hold the head firmly by the sides and rotate the handle counterclockwise.
- Keep turning until the spacer (the black central piece) and the top cap of the head, which hold the blade, separate from the handle.
- With great care, separate the spacer from the top cap and remove the used blade by holding it only by the short, unsharpened sides.
- Dispose of the used blade in a safe container for disposal.
2) Reassembly
- Take the top cap upside down and place the new blade by sliding it over the 2 posts and the central screw.
- Also assemble the spacer by sliding it over the 2 posts and the central screw.
- Hold firmly by the sides (top cap + blade + spacer) without letting them move, and insert the central screw into the corresponding central hole of the handle.
- Holding the head from the sides, start screwing the handle clockwise: the screw will begin to descend and the spacer guides will pass through the comb holes.
- Go all the way to the stop, tightening fully. Do not overtighten to avoid damaging the threads.
- Make sure the holes and notches of all parts (blade, spacer, and comb) are perfectly aligned.
3) Adjustment
- Now that the blade is securely fixed, turn the adjustment dial located on the handle at the base of the head to set your desired level of aggressiveness/cutting depth.
To get the best from this Safety Razor, it’s recommended to start with a moderate setting, especially if you’re switching from multi-blade razors or if you have reactive skin. Then, gradually, you can increase the setting in areas where the beard is more resistant (for example the chin and mustache), while keeping a gentler level on the neck and cheeks. Remember to let the head do the work without applying pressure: with a Safety Razor your hand should guide, not push. Short strokes, a controlled angle, and good lubrication are the keys to a comfortable and precise shave. The Fatip Vario Gold open comb therefore combines adjustability, solidity, and control, offering a customizable experience that can stay with you for a long time in your daily routine.
If you want a Safety Razor capable of adapting to different beard lengths and different skin sensitivities, this solution is designed to give you the flexibility you’re looking for, while maintaining attention to detail and shaving quality.

Tightening a safety razor correctly does not mean cranking it down hard until you damage the threads. Proper tightening usually involves a small final turn once you’ve reached the stop. In addition, to preserve the handle’s threading, it’s recommended to always join the head and handle while keeping them perfectly straight and aligned.
A well-maintained safety razor lasts a long time and stays looking good, which is why cleaning after every use is an essential step. Daily maintenance doesn’t require complicated procedures: after shaving, rinse thoroughly with warm water and a mild cleanser (such as hand soap or shampoo), then dry each part carefully.
We also recommend not leaving the blade installed and dirty in the razor. If it stays damp and covered with residue, the blade can start micro-oxidation; over time these marks can transfer or leave stains on the razor as well, worsening the appearance of the finish.
Special attention for zamak razors: with this material it’s important to disassemble, rinse, and dry every single component after use. In particular, the top cap thread is an area where water and residue can easily build up: if neglected, over time this can trigger corrosion and wear, eventually weakening the thread and compromising functionality.
To protect materials and finishes, avoid any “extreme” methods: do not boil the razor, do not put it in the dishwasher, and do not use harsh products or aggressive procedures. Even on high-quality razors, these practices can damage chrome plating, anodizing, and other coatings.
Do you have a brass razor and want to restore its shine? A simple remedy is to soak the components in a bowl with lemon juice for about 10–15 minutes. Then rinse and dry with a soft, scratch-free cloth for a clean, bright finish.
